Xuzhou – Xiangfan: Hell on a Train

What follows is a transcript of periodic observations during my ordeal in transience between Xuzhou and Xiangfan last week. Hard to believe that it was just last Tuesday. Anyways, it kind of runs the gamut from anthropological naval-gazing, self-piteous lamentations, to just matter of fact “this just happened.” Looking back on this, detached by even [...]

Travel Tip #88321: Chinese Children Kinda Suck

Posted by Jayml on July 11, 2009 at 10:59 am | Filled Under: China, En-route, Travelogue| 2 comments

(written originally somewhere mid-flight between Dalian and Xuzhou)
If ever I had anything positive to say about Asian children, I take it back. I would expect anyone to have a similar change of heart should one have their things abruptly manhandled (or kidhandled, I suppose) in the manner that I did.
It goes like this:
I’m sitting in [...]

Travel Tip #64: Bring a flashlight

Oh gee. They’re turning off all the lights in Departures.
Perhaps one of the more annoying thing about having all my baggage on me, alone, with nothing to do with them, is that I can’t really go to the bathroom without risking having all my stuff stolen from me.
This sucks.

[Written originally in Minneapolis Intl. Airport on June 6th, 2009 at 2:03 PM]
So I owe the internet two reports – one from much earlier to do with travel and metaphors, and another from this past weekend to do with the wedding that had me in Chicago. As of right now, I’m completely zapped. Circumstances being [...]

Backdate – A Moment of Meta-clarity

It seems I still haven’t been able to get a hold of that cursed Apple product I managed to get my hands on. Its possible that the battery is sapped, but… I don’t know. In any case, in lieu of a portable music player, I’m now listening to the sweet, time consuming vocal chords of [...]
